Paint a Womble at Morden Library
AFC Wimbledon’s Community Team have joined with staff at Morden Library to provide an exciting activity for the upcoming summer break.
If you have children between the ages of 5 and 16 they can come along to a couple of Womble-related artistic events being held at the library and have the opportunity to take part in an AFC Wimbledon prize draw.
On Saturday 28 July they can try painting a Womble in a variety of materials. Haydon himself will be posing in a life class and we hope to have some artistic types along to show how easy it can be to draw and paint Wombles in poster paints, water-colours, wax crayons, pencils or chalk.
Pictures can be painted at home, but will need to be handed in at Morden Library by Saturday 4 August.
Every finished picture will be entered into an AFC Wimbledon prize draw and will then feature in a public show to be held in the exhibition space in Morden Hall Park. The Womble pictures will either be mounted, framed and hung on the walls of the exhibition or they will feature in a multimedia slide show that documents the event.
But that is not all…
On Monday 6 August and Tuesday 7 August there will be two painting workshops at Morden Library to create Merton’s very own ‘Wonderful Wall of Wombles’!
The earlier Womble paintings will be reproduced in outline on a huge banner and children can drop by and help to finish the painting off. When finished it will not only grace the library, but it will also be hung behind the goal at an AFC Wimbledon match where with luck it will be visible on national television!
These events are free but you are advised to book with the library as space is limited. Contact the library on 020 8545 4040 to book your place.
Don’t forget you can still paint an A4 Womble picture of your own and hand it in to library staff for it to feature in the exhibition. It doesn’t have to be Haydon either - Madame Cholet, Uncle Bulgaria or Wellington would be just as welcome!
