Wombles book launch party tickets on sale

A children’s party to relaunch the Wombles books is one of the highlights of this year’s Wimbledon BookFest in October. Organised by publishers Bloomsbury, the event will take place in a big tent on Wimbledon Common.

The official programme says: “Bring your own sock and learn how to recycle and transform it into your very own Womble - in true eco style. The party will include an appearance from one of the Wombles, storytelling, sock making, colouring in and games. There will be a Womble cake cutting at the end of the party.”

The event begins at 10.00am on Saturday 9 October and lasts 45 minutes. There will also be ‘Womble appearances’ at 9.45am, 12.00noon, 1.45pm and 2.45pm.

Tickets are now on sale for £3 each through the Polka Theatre. If you book tickets online, there’s a £1 per ticket booking fee and you’ll need to collect them in advance from the theatre box office in Wimbledon. If you’d prefer to have them sent by post, you can book by telephone on 020 8543 4888 and pay an extra 50p per order for delivery. If you’re in the Wimbledon area you can also buy tickets in person at the Polka Theatre.

The first two Wombles story books will be republished on 1 November.
