The Wombles came joint sixth (with The Clangers) in a recent BBC survey on the most popular pre-school children’s TV shows of all time.

The top five shows were:

  1. Rainbow
  2. The Magic Roundabout
  3. Mr Benn
  4. Play School
  5. Bagpuss

The survey, to launch new magazine CBeebies Weekly, asked 1,000 people aged 25 to 45 to pick their favourites.
